Our nurse practitioner, Michelle, has extensive training and experience working in the area of gender affirming care. She can prescribe and oversee hormone replacement therapy (including testosterone replacement therapy and estrogen replacement therapy), provide surgical assessments and referrals for those who identify as trans, non binary or gender diverse.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
As nurse practitioners, we have the ability to prescribe and manage hormone replacement therapy (including testosterone replacement and estrogen replacement therapy as well as puberty blockers) to support clients through their gender journey and medical transition.

Surgical Referrals
Our nurse practitioners can support clients with education and referrals related to gender-affirming surgery.
We will advocate for and work alongside clients throughout the process.

Our nurse practitioners are also psychotherapists, and have the experience and knowledge to support clients throughout their gender journey in an affirming and respectful way.

GENDER AFFIRMING CARE SERVICES
1) What gender-affirming health services does Thrive Therapy Services provide? We provide holistic, anti-oppressive care for trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse individuals of all ages. Our services include Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) initiation and management, puberty blockers, surgical readiness assessments and referral letters, gender identity exploration, and specialized psychotherapy.
2) Can Nurse Practitioners at Thrive prescribe Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)? Yes. Our specialized primary care Nurse Practitioner, Michelle Hermans, has extensive training in gender-affirming medical care. She can prescribe, monitor, and adjust Hormone Replacement Therapy—including testosterone replacement therapy, estrogen replacement therapy, and puberty blockers.
3) Do you provide gender-affirming surgical assessments and referral letters? Yes. Our Nurse Practitioners conduct surgical readiness assessments and complete formal referral letters and documentation for gender-affirming surgeries, working closely with clients to advocate for their medical care throughout the surgical referral process.
4) Who leads the gender-affirming care team at Thrive? Gender-affirming care is led by Nurse Practitioner and Psychotherapist Michelle Hermans (RN, BScN, MN, NP-PHC). Michelle brings extensive experience advocating for two-spirit, trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth, adults, and families.
5) Can I access gender-affirming care virtually in Ontario? Yes. We offer confidential, secure virtual consultations, HRT monitoring, surgical assessment appointments, and counselling for trans and gender-diverse clients residing anywhere in Ontario. (Please note: Due to licensing regulations, our services are available only to residents of Ontario, Canada, and not to clients residing in the United States).
6) Where can I receive in-person gender-affirming care with Thrive? In-person consultations, medical follow-ups, and therapy sessions are available at our physical clinic location in Whitby.
7) Do I need a referral from a doctor to access gender-affirming care at Thrive? No, a physician's referral is not required. You can book a consultation directly through our website or contact us to schedule an initial session with Michelle Hermans, NP.
